Wild chickens in Singapore are getting attention after a video showed one flying from the ground up into a fairly high tree. What makes the clip even more entertaining is that the young chicks were able to follow along.
For anyone used to seeing chickens mostly walk around parks and grassy areas, watching them suddenly take off can be a little surprising. But as commenters pointed out, chickens can fly, although they are generally better at short bursts and getting onto higher ground than sustained flight.
The scene appears to have taken place at a neighbourhood park or residential green space in Singapore, where wild chickens can sometimes be spotted roaming around the grass.
One commenter joked that chickens in Singapore “must learn to fly” because there are trees everywhere.
Do You Need To Feed Them?
One commenter asked if feeding them was allowed, while another said there was no need because the birds could already find bugs and worms in the grass.
Another person said they personally feed them rice or bread, while someone else admitted they would rather not risk getting fined.
The comments show people have very different takes on feeding wild animals. Some think it’s harmless, while others are like, just let them forage.
For the chickens, the grassy areas around parks and residential spaces can already provide plenty of opportunities to forage.
Meanwhile, Singaporeans Are Watching The Chickens
Beyond the feeding debate, much of the comment section was simply amused by the birds.
One commenter initially claimed that birds capable of flying must be pheasants, only for another user to point out that chickens can fly too.
The conversation then somehow expanded into complaints about crows, noise around hawker centres, bird droppings, and even other wildlife such as otters and weasels.
Meanwhile, others stayed focused on the wholesome part: the baby chicks following the adult bird into the tree.
One commenter summed up the mood pretty well, joking that it was funny to see baby chicks flying while grown adults were busy arguing about chickens.
Honestly, the chicks might have been the least dramatic ones in the entire comment section.
