It seems to be a neighbourhood residential setting, and the family is around a large white plastic floor mat traditionally used to wrap up traditional food parcels. A close-up of the family, as they take out the parcels, pour new hot tea and sit together to share their stories in a relaxed environment.
Simple moments unite people together.
The first few shots depict family members comfortably seated in a framed family photo-filled, traditional home, with a wooden panelled living room. Then a woman with a stainless-steel pitcher of hot tea appears and fills the cups the other people have on the ground.
The video shows the family unwrap their own Nasi Lemak and the spicy side dishes throughout the video. It is relaxed, with young family members sitting with parents/elders, all eating with hands as is customary in the region.
Digital viewers are celebrating family connection.
The video was published online right away and was viewed by thousands and had lots of positive comments about the authentic portrayal of family life. The participants appreciated the non-scripted and authentic approach in the content, and many commented on how they enjoyed seeing a different perspective on how people live and how they make their culture, as opposed to the “polished” images that they see on social media.
The clips highlight how eating together is an integral part of family and cultural life, from generation to generation. The video offers a detailed look at the life of a family and how they are still connected, even after time passes.
