A Singaporean living in the UK shared how a routine late-night gym session turned into one of the worst experiences of his life after his gym bag was allegedly stolen.
In a series of Instagram reels, he said the incident happened in Leeds after finishing a workout around 1am.
The missing bag contained his house keys, glasses and work uniform. Without his keys, he was locked out of his apartment and spent hours outside trying to figure out what to do.
He described it as the “craziest 24 hours” of his life and said he had never experienced anything like it before.
Bag disappeared during a late-night workout
According to him, he arrived at the gym at around 11.50pm after watching the England vs Ghana match.
He usually keeps his belongings in the men’s changing room, but it was closed for plumbing works that night. Instead, he left his bag in a different locker.
He admitted he did not lock the locker, saying he had been using the same gym for about two years and that many members also left their belongings unlocked.
When he returned after his workout, his bag was gone.
He searched nearby lockers and noticed other unlocked bags had been left untouched, leaving him confused about why only his bag had been taken.
He added that the bag itself was old and worn and said there was nothing valuable inside apart from his glasses, house keys and work uniform.
Locked out overnight after losing house keys
Because his keys were inside the stolen bag, he was unable to enter his apartment.
He said he repeatedly knocked on the door, called the apartment phone and tried contacting his housemate, but could not get inside.
At around 3am, he wandered around Leeds while deciding what to do next. In one video, he said the city was unusually quiet and joked that he might as well enjoy the walk despite the situation.
He also claimed that some homeless people threw glass bottles nearby during the night, although he was not injured.
The Singaporean said he had lived in the UK for five years, and this was the first time he had experienced an incident like this. He added that, despite doing the same gym routine for two years, the incident was the first time anything had been stolen.
