Former Singapore Idol contestant Noorazlina Ajis has swapped part of the spotlight for the kitchen. Together with her husband, the pair now run Ayam Gepuk Anak Mak in Ang Mo Kio, while music remains a big part of everyday life.

Weekdays are spent preparing meals and serving customers at the restaurant. Friday nights are reserved for live performances with the band Nation One. Food by day, music by night.

The business started during the COVID-19 pandemic with Ayam Gepuk sold from home. At first, there was no certainty it would become something bigger. But things quickly changed when TikTok Live brought in more customers. Orders started coming in faster, and the home kitchen eventually struggled to keep up with the demand.
Growing Demand Led to a Physical Store
As orders started piling up, the home kitchen simply could not handle the demand anymore, Noorazlina said. The workload became too much, and the couple knew it was time to take the business into a proper shop. Realising they needed more space, the couple decided to open a physical outlet.
Since opening in Ang Mo Kio, Ayam Gepuk Anakmak has continued drawing a steady stream of customers. Some regular customers have shared their support online, with one saying they still return to buy from the shop even after its move to Ang Mo Kio.

Another customer shared excitement after booking the restaurant’s buffet platter service for a birthday celebration.
The shop specialises in Indonesian-style ayam gepuk, with several chicken options available for customers.
Signature Cashew Sauce Stands Out
The signature ayam gepuk comes with a crispy, well-marinated chicken leg, but the real star is the hand-ground cashew sauce paired with a fiery chilli. Mix everything together and every bite turns creamy, nutty, and spicy at the same time.
Spice levels can also be customised. More cashew makes the chilli milder, while less cashew brings out much more heat. The highest level comes without any cashew, making it the hottest option on the menu.
The restaurant uses a unique system based on the amount of cashew sauce added. More cashew creates a milder taste, while less cashew allows the chilli to become much hotter. At the highest spice level, no cashew is added, making it the restaurant’s hottest option.
Visitors looking to try the restaurant can find it at Blk 215 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, #01-877, Singapore 560215.
