People online have been enjoying a TikTok video featuring Singapore football legend Fandi Ahmad and his youngest son, Iryan Fandi, with many loving the contrast between the two players.
The clip playfully presents the two Fandis as a “father-son rivalry”, showing their different styles, skills and memorable moments on the pitch. As father and son, Fandi Ahmad and Iryan Fandi represent two generations of Singapore football carrying the same famous family name.
In the comments, many fans looked back on his prime years, with one writing, “Prime Fandi Ahmad”, while another said, “Fandi still got it, he’s so quick.”
Others recalled the excitement of Singapore football during his era, saying it brought people together to watch matches and created unforgettable childhood memories.
Fandi Ahmad’s Lasting Football Legacy
Fandi Ahmad remains one of Singapore’s most celebrated footballers. Born on 29 May 1962, he built an impressive career that saw him represent clubs across Singapore, Malaysia and Europe.
He became the first Singaporean to score in a European club competition during his time with Dutch club FC Groningen. His performances also made him a fan favourite overseas and earned him a place in the club’s Hall of Fame.
Back home, Fandi played a major role in Singapore football history, including captaining the national team during the memorable 1994 Malaysia Cup triumph. Following his retirement, Fandi Ahmad continued to impact the sport by coaching and developing young people.
Iryan Fandi Represents the Next Generation
Born on 9 August 2006, Iryan Fandi is one of Singapore’s emerging football talents. Unlike Fandi Ahmad’s attacking role, Iryan has developed to be a centre-back who has strong physical strength, ability to defend and confidence on the pitch.
He played his first match for Hougang United in the Singapore Premier League in 2023 at the age of 16. Later he joined Young Lions on loan (2025) and was able to get further experience.
The young defender has also represented Singapore at the youth international level and is seen as part of the country’s next generation of footballers.
