Malaysians are completely losing it online after Hollywood heavyweight Mark Wahlberg randomly popped up on the streets of Penang. He is currently in George Town filming an upcoming, high-octane Netflix action thriller titled The Big Fix.
Over the weekend, a massive crowd of curious locals basically choked the pavement along Lebuh Melayu, all desperate to catch a quick glimpse of the American celebrity. Dressed down in a simple green long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans, Wahlberg was spotted standing outdoors right in the middle of the production zone.
The seasoned actor, widely recognized for his leading roles in massive global blockbusters like The Departed and the Transformers franchise, drew an immediate wave of attention across local social media timelines.
George Town Sets
The ongoing movie production has transformed large sections of the historic city into a busy, full-scale Hollywood set. Endless lines of crew members, massive lighting rigs, and heavy production vehicles are completely packing the narrow heritage roads.
Right in the thick of all the madness, Wahlberg was seen deep in discussion with his directors before casually walking past vintage local storefronts like Siew’s Brother Enterprise.
This sudden arrival of a major international project has turned a quiet neighborhood into a chaotic hotspot for fans. Security teams have already put up bright yellow tape to keep the massive crowds back while the cameras roll.
Global Plot Line
This upcoming Netflix flick tracks the intense story of an undercover Interpol officer tied to FIFA who stumbles on a global football match-fixing syndicate.
While Mark Wahlberg handles the main lead role, the project actually boasts a heavy-hitting international cast. We are talking about Marvel star and Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, Singapore’s very own Chin Han, and veteran actor Vipin Sharma.
On top of that, Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman has landed a spot in the cast, giving our local creative talent a pretty massive platform to shine globally.
Local Filming Locations
The production crew is anchored down in Penang for roughly two weeks to shoot various scenes. They are moving across multiple iconic local backdrops including Lorong Kulit, Macallum Field, Stadium Bandaraya, and Stadium Batu Kawan.
Local service provider Biscuit Films is helping run the ground logistics, and national film officials have already dropped by the set to show their support for the big project.
