As Singapore marks its 61st National Day, the Kampung Kita campaign is encouraging residents to look beyond the celebrations and support vulnerable neighbours in Serangoon and Hougang.
Organised in support of Bless Community Services (BCS), the campaign aims to raise $50,000 for community programmes that provide practical assistance to families, seniors, youths and rough sleepers.
Helping Neighbours Get Through Tough Times
For some families, making ends meet can be a real struggle.
For some young people, school expenses can be another thing their families have to worry about. For others facing a rough patch, even putting food on the table can become a daily concern.
Through the campaign, donations can help ease some of that pressure by providing:
Education support for children and youths from lower-income families.
Food and emergency assistance for families and individuals facing financial difficulties.
Safe sleeping places and support for rough sleepers working towards stable housing and employment.
Community programmes that help reduce isolation and strengthen connections among vulnerable residents.
BCS also operates four Safe Sound Sleeping Places to support rough sleepers as they work towards stability and restoration.
Real Stories From The Community
The campaign highlights residents who have received support from BCS.
Hadhari, whose mother is the sole breadwinner in his family, received bursary support while preparing for his O Levels.
“I just want to do my best for my O Levels and make my mom proud,” for Mr A, food rations helped support his family of four after he lost his job because of a medical condition.
Meanwhile, support for isolated seniors such as Mr L provides practical assistance while reminding them that they are not alone.
A Kampung That Leaves No One Behind
The idea behind Kampung Kita is simple: a strong community looks out for its neighbours.
As part of the campaign, BCS is also organising a Community Carnival and Fundraising Run on Saturday, 1 August 2026, from 9am to 1pm at the void deck of Blk 116 Serangoon North Avenue 1. The event is free to join.
With a fundraising target of $50,000, every donation can help someone in the community take their next step forward.
BCS is an IPC charity, and eligible donations qualify for a 250% tax deduction.
The campaign invites residents to contribute and help build a community where no neighbour is left behind.
