A Reddit user recently asked why people still choose outdoor exercise at noon when Singapore’s UV index can hit 12, the highest level reported by the National Environment Agency (NEA). The post came from concerns about skin ageing, skin cancer and the risks of exercising under the blazing midday sun.

Many replies pointed to one simple reason. Lunch break is the only free time they have. People working from home said squeezing in a run or cycle during that window is much easier than waking up before sunrise or waiting until after work.
Less crowded makes it worth it
Others said they deliberately avoid morning and evening workouts because parks and cycling paths are packed.
Some cyclists shared that crowded paths can be more stressful than the heat, especially when people block the way or forget to keep left. Exercising at noon means fewer interruptions and a smoother workout.

Several commenters also admitted they simply exercise whenever the mood strikes. If they feel motivated at noon, they head out instead of putting it off.
Not everyone worries about the midday sun
Some users said they spend almost their entire day indoors, so getting a bit of sunlight during lunch feels like a good trade-off.

The discussion also turned to vitamin D, with some saying office workers may not get enough sun during the week. Others added that spending time outdoors also helps boost their mood, with one commenter saying they feel noticeably more positive after getting some sunlight.
In the end, it really comes down to personal preference. Some would rather deal with the heat than crowded paths and packed workout spots.
