Trump Signals Further Action Against Iran

Donald Trump revealed he was going to hit Iran ‘again hard today’ as he signed the nearly $70 bln immigration enforcement bill, the ‘Secure America Act’ on Wednesday.

“But we hit them hard yesterday, and we’re going to hit them again hard today, in case you miss it, in case you don’t turn on your television set. And we’ll see what happens with the deal. We were really close to a deal, but they keep tapping us along. They keep playing us for suckers because, you know what? They dealt with some very stupid presidents,” he said.

Earlier, Trump posted that Iran had “taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!” Tehran said it would “need to assess the situation” after the US launched fresh strikes.

Trump claimed Iran ‘shot down’ an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, with the US saying it hit an Iranian drone. Iran struck back at targets across the Middle East.

Ceasefire Tested by Renewed Strikes

This week, Israel and Iran also exchanged fresh strikes for the first time since a fragile ceasefire came into effect in April, before both sides agreed to halt attacks.

Trump and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu have appeared divided in recent weeks, with Trump’s warning not to ‘retaliate’ against Iran going unheeded. He also reportedly called the PM ‘f***ing crazy’ over his threat to bomb Beirut’s southern suburbs last week – which saw Iran warn that they would withdraw from talks.
