Trump Jokes About Extended Presidency
US President Donald Trump joked on Monday that he might leave the White House ‘in eight or nine years from now’, while hosting business representatives at an event in Washington, DC.

“It’s the right thing. And this way, when I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now, I’ll be able to use it myself,” the president said, as he discussed a newly announced 10-year tax deduction bill that drew laughter and applause from the audience.
His remark about a third term came ahead of Trump’s 80th birthday on June 14. Under the 22nd Amendment, no US president may be elected more than twice.
Legal Limits and Political Context
The comments also came before Trump’s upcoming trip to China, where he is expected to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a high-stakes summit.
Upcoming US-China Summit

“I’m going to go see President Xi in two weeks. I look forward to that, but I’ll say I’m leading. We have very friendly competition. But actually, it’ll be a very important trip,” he commented.
Visit Schedule and Background
Trump’s visit is scheduled for May 14-15. The trip was originally planned for March but was delayed due to the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran.
