Wildfire Emergency
Firefighters in southern Spain have been drawing water from residential pools as they battle a deadly wildfire near Los Gallardos in Almeria province.
Footage filmed on Friday shows a fire engine parked beside a swimming pool as crews refill water tanks with hoses. Firefighters are then seen walking along a rural road, pulling hose lines past homes and climbing a dry hillside towards smouldering vegetation.
Mass Evacuations
More than 1,000 residents have been evacuated from Los Gallardos, Bedar and surrounding communities after flames spread rapidly through dry terrain in extreme heat and strong winds.
Regional authorities said at least 11 people had been killed, eight injured and 19 were still unaccounted for. Rescue teams have been deployed to search for the missing, coordinate evacuations and investigate how the blaze started.
Fire Battle Continues
The fire has burned more than 3,000 hectares, according to emergency officials, with aircraft and ground crews working to contain the flames.
The disaster comes as Spain endures another spell of extreme summer heat, with dry vegetation and low humidity leaving parts of the south at high risk of fast-moving fires.
