A new discussion has begun on the behavior of passengers on public transport in Singapore. In particular, there is a debate on a Reddit post about the tendency to play videos or songs loudly on the MRT and buses. In an online discussion, someone raised the question of whether it is appropriate to directly protest in such situations.

This question has given rise to generational views, where some people are in favor of speaking up, while others consider silence to be safer.

The Tendency to speak Directly
Many young people believe that speaking politely can solve problems. According to them, even if the matter is a personal annoyance, it is a form of social etiquette. Therefore, if someone is annoyed, they should politely request it. Some share their experiences and say that many people respond positively if they speak calmly.

This does not create unnecessary tension and the situation is easily controlled. At the same time, they believe that it is a way to teach mutual respect in society.
The Perspective of the Elderly
On the other hand, many believe that in the case of the elderly, the issue is not a lack of awareness, but rather physical limitations. Especially since they have poor hearing, they do not realize that the noise is getting louder. Therefore, instead of directly complaining, one should speak sympathetically.
This can solve the problem without embarrassing anyone. From this perspective, many people advise that the tone of speech should be polite. Because using harsh language can actually make the situation worse.
Opinion in Favor of Silence
Again, a group of passengers believes that getting involved in these issues can increase mental stress. According to them, there is no need to get involved in trouble for a short journey. They say that many times people can react unexpectedly.

Therefore, it is better to avoid the issue to maintain one’s peace. They believe that it is important to keep stress low, especially in busy urban life.
The Argument for Tolerance
Another opinion is that one should be somewhat tolerant. Many people believe that there will be different types of people on public transport, so it is not possible to control everything. Some say that short-term noise pollution is not a big problem. They argue that there are bigger challenges in life, so it is not right to get overly upset about small things. This view mainly emphasizes patience and adaptation.

Generational Differences
This entire discussion has clearly highlighted generational differences. Some younger generation values awareness and direct communication. On the other hand, the older or more experienced tend to be more patient and evasive.

However, both sides agree on one thing—it is important to maintain civility. Because no matter how the situation is handled, respectful behavior is ultimately the most effective.
