Singapore’s fast food scene is constantly changing, with limited-time releases, seasonal favourites and old menu items coming and going. While new burgers and snacks continue to appear, some discontinued fast food items have left a lasting impression on customers.
A recent Reddit discussion asked Singaporeans which discontinued fast food items they still miss. The responses quickly turned into a nostalgia trip, with KFC, McDonald’s, MOS Burger, 7-Eleven and other familiar names making the list.
From curry rice bowls to cinnamon melts, many commenters remembered specific foods that once felt like everyday favourites but are now difficult or impossible to find.
KFC Favourites Still Have Fans
KFC was one of the biggest names in the discussion, with several discontinued items receiving plenty of love.
The KFC Original Recipe Rice Bowl was repeatedly mentioned, especially the curry version. One commenter said the curry rice bowl was still memorable because KFC already had the curry, making the disappearance of the full meal even more frustrating.
KFC Popcorn Chicken was another popular answer. One commenter said they still missed it, while another travelled to Malaysia to try the version there and felt the Singapore version had been much better than expected.
The Fish Ole was also strongly remembered. One Redditor described the fish burger as one of the best fish burgers they had eaten, while another said the lemony sauce was the part they missed most.
Other KFC favourites mentioned included the Shroom Burger, Old Meltz, Coconut Pie, Hot Devil Drumlets, Potato Wedges, Grilled Chicken, the Bandito Pocket and Hot Wings.
One commenter recalled eating KFC Meltz regularly during their polytechnic years, even adding cheesy fries for an extra satisfying meal.
McDonald’s Items Cause Major Nostalgia
McDonald’s also had plenty of discontinued favourites mentioned in the discussion.
Cinnamon Melts appeared several times, with commenters remembering buying them after school and sharing them with family. Another person simply reacted with excitement after being reminded that the dessert existed.
McDonald’s Chicken McGrill was another nostalgic pick. One commenter remembered the grilled chicken burger and salad, while another said the burger tasted much better than fried chicken patties.
Other discontinued or seasonal McDonald’s items mentioned included the original Nasi Lemak Burger, Veggie Crunch, McAloo Tikki Burger, Fish and Fries, Strawberry Cream Pie, Hojicha Ice Cream, Green Apple Ice Cream and various flavoured soft-serve swirls.
The discussion also touched on McGriddles and Seaweed Shaker Fries. Although these are not necessarily permanently discontinued, commenters argued that both deserve a permanent place on the menu.
MOS Burger, 7-Eleven and More
The nostalgia was not limited to KFC and McDonald’s.
MOS Burger fans remembered the Ebi Rice Burger and Ichigo Bliss. One commenter said the Ebi Rice Burger was the main reason they visited MOS Burger, while another remembered pairing the fish burger with Ichigo Bliss for dessert.
7-Eleven also appeared in the discussion, with people mentioning the old $1 mashed potato, Softee ice cream, pizza bar snacks and other items that have disappeared or become harder to find.
Even snacks outside the fast food category made the list. One commenter brought up Twisties Tomato, saying the older version had a much stronger flavour. Others suggested that older packets could still occasionally be found at smaller shops.
There were also calls for Wendy’s to return to Singapore, showing that some food nostalgia goes beyond individual menu items.
For many commenters, the appeal of these discontinued fast food items is not simply about taste. These foods are connected to school days, family meals, student years and familiar routines.
