Food and parcel delivery riders in Kuala Lumpur now have a new rest facility near Dataran Merdeka aimed at improving working conditions for gig workers in the city. The facility was launched by the minister in the Prime Minister’s department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, during the opening of the Kuala Lumpur P-Hailing Hub this morning.
D’Tebing Recharge Rider Facility
The facility, known as D’Tebing Recharge Rider, sits within walking distance of Dataran Merdeka. It offers rest spaces, mobile phone charging stations, prayer room facilities, and public toilets for delivery riders who spend long hours on the road.

The facility is also built near a food court serving Menu Rahmah meals, providing affordable food options for riders and visitors. Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun bin Mak Ujud said the hub provides a comfortable waiting area for delivery workers while they wait for orders. Furthermore, officials said the nearby food court helps riders access low-cost meals during breaks.
Public-Private Partnership Model
Zus Coffee funded and developed the project as part of a public-private partnership approach to urban development. Officials said such collaborations help reduce costs and make better use of underutilized city spaces for community needs.
Plans for More Facilities
Minister Hannah Yeoh said the government plans to expand similar rest and recharge facilities across the capital. The ministry is also exploring partnerships with Khazanah Nasional Berhad to support future urban regeneration projects in the city. The proposal aims to identify more unused urban spaces for similar community facilities.

DBKL said the hub supports efforts to transform under-used urban areas into functional community spaces. The initiative is part of broader plans to improve infrastructure and support the growing number of gig economy workers in Kuala Lumpur.

In addition, the initiative aligns with efforts to support last-mile delivery services in high-density urban areas. Authorities noted that rest facilities can help improve efficiency for riders who operate across busy commercial districts and residential neighborhoods. Moreover, authorities plan further expansions in the future.
