China Sends 80 Tonnes Of Aid

A shipment of approximately 80 tonnes of humanitarian supplies arrived in Colombia from China on Tuesday to support people affected by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook the country on 10 August.

The images show the Air China-operated aircraft carrying the aid arriving at Bogota’s El Dorado airport, as workers unload the supplies.

The consignment left Beijing in the early hours of 18 August and includes 1,900 tents, 7,000 blankets, 15 water purification plants, 200 solar lamps and 20 diesel generators, intended to meet the basic needs of affected communities.

Aid Heads To Valle Del Cauca

“[The humanitarian aid] will go to the department of Valle del Cauca. It will be distributed there among those affected by the earthquake, together with the authority of the Valle del Cauca Governor’s Office,” said Zhu Jingyang, China’s ambassador to Colombia, on the day, who highlighted the collaboration of the authorities in making the delivery of the assistance possible.

“I want to highlight the good and very close communication and coordination between the embassy [of China in Colombia] and the Colombian Foreign Ministry, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, and other competent authorities,” he said.
