Hind Rajab Case Sparks Anger
The grandmother of Hind Rajab – the five-year-old girl whose death in Gaza sparked global condemnation – said she did not trust Israeli justice, after the military admitted this week – for the very first time – that its soldiers had fired on a car carrying Hind and six relatives back in 2024.
“If you want me to talk about the investigation or Israeli justice, we as the people of Gaza do not trust Israeli justice very much,” she said, speaking from her home in the Yarmouk area of Gaza on Friday. “We do not trust an enemy that shoots at us directly and deliberately while knowing that there are children in the car.”

Footage includes the young girl’s heartbreaking final moments, speaking with her grandmother – also called Hind – as she was trapped in the vehicle with her dead relatives.
“Stay with me,” Hind is heard saying: “I am with you, I will not go anywhere,” came the reply.
Family Seeks Answers
Her grandmother went on: “Hind kept telling us: I am scared, please send me an ambulance, the whole area around me is full of tanks and soldiers, and I am very scared, send someone to rescue me,” she went on. “And we would tell her: God willing, the ambulance will arrive, coordination has been made and they are on their way to you. We were trying to reassure her and give her hope that the ambulance would arrive and take her.”
Israel has also opened a criminal investigation. The child initially survived the gunfire and spoke to the Palestinian Red Crescent and relatives via mobile phone, while trapped under the debris – in a call that lasted hours.

An ambulance was dispatched, but that rescue attempt was bombed, killing the two paramedics – and her body, along with others, was discovered days later.
Her death and the circumstances were condemned around the world.
Military Investigation Begins
This week, the IDF stated: “Due to alleged failures in the co-ordination of the movement of the Palestine Red Crescent ambulance, it has been decided to initiate a criminal investigation of the incident by Military Police Criminal Investigation Division.”
The Israeli military initially tried to claims its troops were not in the area at the time of the initial attack on the car but later admitted they had ‘conducted raids on terror targets’ in the area.
