Toddler Spotted Crossing Road Alone
A toddler was spotted wandering alone on the road outside Punggol Coast Mall on Saturday (Aug 15), prompting a family in a passing car to stop and help.
The incident happened at around 6pm, when Hamad Gaddafi Fauzi was leaving the mall with his wife and family.
In a TikTok video uploaded by @hyfasayf on Sunday (Aug 16), dashcam footage showed the family’s car leaving the Punggol Coast Mall car park and heading towards the mall entrance.
As the car approached a zebra crossing, a young child suddenly appeared on the road. The toddler was crossing by himself and was directly in the vehicle’s path. The family reacted quickly and stopped the car.
Hamad then got out and approached the child before carrying him away from the road. The toddler appeared calm despite being alone and held onto Hamad after being picked up. Hamad estimated that the child was under two years old and said he was unable to speak.
Family Searches For The Toddler’s Parents
After getting the toddler to safety, Hamad and his family began looking for his parents.
They first searched around the nearby bus interchange before checking the surrounding area near the mall.
The search lasted about four minutes before they spotted a young man approaching them around 250m from where the toddler had been found.
The toddler’s reaction led Hamad to believe that the man was his father. The father then took the child back.
According to Hamad, the father explained that the toddler had managed to run off very quickly. Hamad was reportedly unhappy with how the situation was handled after the child was reunited with his father. He said the father reprimanded the toddler before leaving the area with him.
Viewers Praise Family For Acting Quickly
The video quickly got viewers talking, with many praising Hamad for jumping out of the car and getting the toddler to safety. Some said they would have taken the child straight to a nearby police station instead of returning him to his parents.
Others called for the incident to be reported, saying the situation was too serious to simply brush off.
Many commenters also criticized the parents and said a toddler that young should not have been able to wander onto a busy road alone. At the same time, some viewers pointed out that toddlers can be surprisingly fast and may suddenly run off when adults least expect it.
Hamad later explained that he had to act quickly because another car was behind him. He stopped, got out, and ran towards the toddler as he approached the main road. He also said the child was especially difficult to spot because of his small size and clothes blending into the surroundings.
For many viewers, the scary part was just how easily the toddler could have been missed by another driver.
