A white SUV was left suspended above a slope after losing control and crashing into trees near a tunnel entrance in Chongqing, China, on Aug 5.
The unusual incident happened at around 9.30am near Eling Tunnel in Yuzhong District, according to local media reports. The vehicle became trapped between trees and an electrical box after leaving the road, leaving the SUV hanging in a dangerous position.
SUV Leaves Road Suddenly
Dashcam footage shared on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu showed the SUV travelling in the middle lane before the driver appeared to lose control.
The vehicle suddenly moved towards the left side of the road and passed between two cars in the leftmost lane. It then crossed the roadside area, mounted a kerb, and travelled up an embankment before becoming stuck among several trees.
Videos circulating online showed the SUV suspended above the slope as other vehicles continued passing through the area. The footage showed the vehicle in a difficult position, with its front section hanging over the edge while supported by surrounding trees.
Rescue Teams Arrive
The Yuzhong District fire and rescue brigade responded to the incident after receiving reports of the trapped vehicle. Firefighters used a ladder to reach the SUV and safely rescue the driver and a passenger.
According to Chinese media outlet Shangguan News, both individuals were taken to the hospital after being removed from the vehicle. No further details about their condition were immediately reported.
Following the rescue operation, a crane was sent to the location to remove the SUV from the scene. The vehicle was carefully lifted away from the trees and slope area.
Accident Investigation Continues
The crash caused attention due to the unusual position of the SUV after it left the road. Images and videos from the scene showed the vehicle hanging above the slope near the tunnel entrance.
Police have not been able to say yet what caused the driver to lose control. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
The accident occurred in the city of Chongqing, in southwest China, where the roads are a bit of a maze and there are a lot of mountains. Road accidents and rescue operations continue to be undertaken by local emergency teams throughout the city.
