A woman in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, fell into an open manhole while reportedly using her phone and not noticing the uncovered site.
She became trapped after the manhole cover shifted above her. A passing motorbike delivery rider stopped and managed to pull her out of the hole.
She sustained injuries across her body and was taken for medical treatment. Reports suggest the manhole cover may have been tampered with or displaced.
Recent Similar Tragedy in New York City
The incident comes shortly after a separate fatal case in New York City on May 19.
A 56-year-old woman, identified as Donike Gocaj, died after stepping out of her car and falling into an uncovered maintenance hole on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Police said she was found unconscious inside the manhole and later pronounced dead at hospital.
