Italian climber Leonardo Avezzano reached the summit of Mount Everest carrying a kite inscribed with messages and dreams from children in Gaza.

The drawings and notes included aspirations such as becoming a journalist, while others wrote about becoming doctors.
The expedition team said the goal was to carry the children’s messages “to the top of the world” as part of a broader awareness mission highlighting the situation of Palestinian children in Gaza.
It was also linked to a fundraising effort aiming to raise around $10 million for medical aid for injured civilians in Gaza.

Jordanian-Palestinian mountaineer Mostafa Salameh led the expedition but did not reach the summit due to frostbite and a blood clot in his hand. He had earlier spoken with children in Gaza during the expedition.
According to official reports, more than 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza, with many others injured and displaced amid widespread destruction.
Avezzano ultimately carried the kite to the summit, placing it at the highest point on Earth.
Voices from the expedition
Leonardo said, “For the children of Palestine, for their dreams. On the top of Everest… this is for them.”

He later added that raising the kite at the summit symbolised carrying the children’s dreams “to the top of the world,” describing them as resilient despite the conditions they are living through.

Mostafa said the children’s dreams had now reached Everest, adding that they “will come true because these kids are resilient” and continue to live through destruction of homes, schools, hospitals, and playgrounds.
Heartfelt responses online pour in
Comments under the video were largely supportive, with many viewers thanking the climbers for carrying the children’s messages to the world’s highest peak.

One commenter called it an “absolutely beautiful” moment and hoped the children’s dreams would one day come true. Another described it as a “great achievement”, praising the team for supporting humanity beyond politics and nationality.

Others thanked the climbers directly, with several calling the mission inspiring and highlighting the symbolism of bringing the children’s dreams to the top of Mount Everest.
