UNESCO Recognition

Jordan’s dazzling Aqaba Marine Reserve has been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, putting its coral reefs and extraordinary marine life on the global map.

Footage shows brightly coloured fish darting through coral gardens inside the reserve, alongside divers at Aqaba’s Royal Diving Centre and a press conference announcing the landmark decision.

Protecting Marine Life

The reserve was reportedly inscribed under UNESCO’s natural criteria nine and ten, recognising its ecological processes, rich marine biodiversity and vital role in protecting threatened species and ecosystems.

Jordanian media said the decision gives international recognition to one of the northern Red Sea’s most important marine ecosystems.
