Two Survivors Rescued Alive
Two people have been rescued alive from a flooded hydropower tunnel in Nepal’s Rasuwa district after being trapped since Wednesday’s devastating flash flood.
The Nepali Army brought the pair out on Friday, as specialist teams searched the tunnel and worked to establish how many people remained inside.
Footage shows one soldier carrying a survivor out on his back, while another person is escorted to safety.
The footage was released by the Prime Minister’s Office on August 28. The identities of the two survivors were not immediately released.
Rescue Teams Search Tunnel
The Nepal Electricity Authority said rescue efforts were focused on the Upper Trishuli A Hydropower Project, with a dedicated helicopter and specialist teams carrying rescue equipment deployed to reach those stranded inside.
The authority said 350 people were rescued from Upper Trishuli on Thursday, with two more survivors brought out on Friday.
Flood Causes Widespread Damage
The flash flood struck the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa at around 08:40 on August 26, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs, causing heavy loss of life and widespread destruction in communities along the river.
Roads, bridges, power infrastructure and hydropower facilities were damaged as floodwater, mud and debris tore downstream through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems, complicating rescue operations across the region.
