China Marks Victory Day
As China marked the 81st anniversary of Victory Day in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression on Thursday, visitors gathered at the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders to lay flowers and remember those killed.

Footage shows people entering the memorial in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, where a prominent display bears the number 300,000, China’s official figure for the death toll from the Nanjing Massacre. Inside, visitors come face-to-face with a vast wall of victims’ photographs, confronting them with the human cost of the atrocity.
Visitors Remember Victims
“Coming here to pay our respects to the history of our forefathers is undoubtedly a deeply moving experience. While our forefathers suffered immense injustice, history must not be allowed to fade into obscurity. That is why a solemn building like this serves as a crucial reminder to us, their descendants; we should visit it often,” said visitor Mr Yan.

Another visitor, Ms Zhang, said: “As soon as I entered the venue, a heavy weight settled in my heart. Perhaps it was due to my parents’ experiences or the things I witnessed growing up, but seeing all this left me deeply shaken and helped me truly grasp these vital historical facts.”
Memorial Preserves History
The Memorial Hall was built on the site where victims’ remains were discovered. It covers 103,000 square metres, including nearly 20,000 square metres of exhibition space, and preserves physical evidence and historical records documenting the Nanjing Massacre.
