Vietnam Proposes ASEAN Corridor
Vietnamese Finance Minister Ngo Van Tuan called for a new logistics corridor that would connect the Far East to ASEAN and make Hanoi a gateway for Russian companies to the wider market, speaking at the Russia-ASEAN business dialogue session at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Wednesday.
“I propose that we explore and develop a Far East–Vietnam–ASEAN logistics corridor, integrating maritime transport, ports, cold-storage facilities, distribution centres and production chains. This could create new value chains in fisheries, agriculture, food, raw materials and consumer goods,” Ngo Van Tuan said.
He also noted that Moscow and Hanoi could co-operate in the digital sphere as Russia had a “strong scientific and technological foundation and highly skilled human resources”, while Vietnam was advancing in “AI, big data, data centres, cloud computing, semiconductors, automation, digital finance and smart logistics”.
Myanmar Seeks Cyber Co-operation
Meanwhile, Myanmar Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Communication Min Zayar Hlaing said that Russia had ‘strong’ expertise in cybersecurity and protection of critical digital infrastructure, adding: “We can build those systems together to protect cyberspace.”
He also invited Russia to co-operate on cyber city development and smart city infrastructure, including intelligent traffic and public transportation systems, smart street energy management, water and waste management, and public safety infrastructure.
“With Russian experience and all, at the same time, Myanmar’s smart city should reflect our own conditions and development priorities. We welcome joint development of solutions adapted to Myanmar economic, social, cultural and infrastructure conditions,” Min Zayar Hlaing said.
Forum Highlights Regional Trade
The Eastern Economic Forum takes place from September 1-4, in Vladivostok, in Russia’s Far East. The landmark economic event brings together officials, business leaders and experts from Russia and abroad.
This year’s theme is ‘The Far East: Development for the Benefit of People’, with more than 70 sessions covering investment, international co-operation, technology, logistics and infrastructure.
According to Yuri Trutnev, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, more than 5,000 people from over 70 countries have applied to attend.
