Roti Prata is among the most popular foods in Malaysia because it is also available in Malaysia, cheap in price, and most of all, it tastes good. One restaurant, however, has taken a new twist in Melaka, creating a performance of the traditional meal.
At Roti Terbang Kampung Mizan 6, diners can watch cooks launch roti prata through the air as part of a special dining experience. A recent video captured the unusual performance, showing one cook throwing the dough across the dining area before another staff member skilfully catches it.
Flying Roti Canai Show
The video shows the roti prata moving above diners’ heads while customers watch the performance at their tables. The restaurant has created this activity as part of its attraction, combining food preparation with a visual show.
The flying roti prata performance takes place four times a day at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, and midnight. Visitors who want to see the show need to arrive during these scheduled times.
The restaurant in Melaka has been noted for offering a new kind of entertainment when dining at a traditional Malaysian restaurant. The performance allows customers to enjoy both the meal and the cooking skills of the staff.
A Famous Roti Canai Tradition
According to food blog MyMakanTV, restaurant owner Mizan previously won a roti prata flying competition. His experience helped shape the restaurant’s unique presentation style.
However, the unusual performance has also had unexpected moments. A 2022 report by Says.com shared an incident where a “rogue” roti prata accidentally landed on a customer’s face during the show.
The customer reportedly did not take offence over the incident and later received RM50 from the restaurant owner. The amount is around S$15.
Popular Dishes Beyond Roti
Besides the flying roti prata show, the restaurant also offers several signature dishes. Some food bloggers have singled out Roti Jepun, Nasi Lemak Biasa and Asam Pedas with rice, which can be found at budget prices.
The innovative concept behind the restaurant has made this Malaysian favourite into something more unique. Roti Terbang Kampung Mizan 6 is still a successful stall that offers both entertainment and traditional skills in preparing roti in Melaka.
