A woman’s organ donation story in Malaysia has touched thousands of people after doctors confirmed her organs helped save 11 lives. The case involved Manisha Jagan Mongan, who died in 2023 at the age of 35. Her family agreed to donate her organs and tissues shortly after her death. Medical officials later said her donations gave several patients a second chance at life.

Donation Helped Multiple Patients

According to Sungai Buloh Hospital, Manisha’s kidneys and liver were transplanted into three patients who had waited a long time for treatment. Her corneas and bones were also preserved and may help more patients in the future. Doctors said the successful procedures showed how important organ donation can be for people facing serious health conditions.

Her story was recently shared during a donor appreciation event in Selangor that honored organ donors and their families. Health officials said the event highlighted the lasting impact of people who choose to donate organs after death. The ceremony also recognized families who supported those difficult decisions during painful moments.

Public interest suddenly increased

Dr. Natasha Noh, head of the hospital’s tissue and organ donation unit, said public interest in organ donation increased sharply after Manisha’s case became widely known. She explained that registrations had previously moved slowly because many people were unsure or uncomfortable discussing organ donation with their families.

Dr. Natasha told local media outlet FMT that many Malaysians began registering as donors after hearing how Manisha’s organs helped others. She said the response surprised medical workers because the country had struggled for years to increase awareness about organ donation. Officials reported a noticeable rise in cadaveric donor registrations after the story spread online and through news reports.

Family Respects Final Wish

Manisha’s father, P. Jagan Mongan, received a certificate of appreciation from the Selangor Health Department earlier this month. He said losing his daughter at a young age caused deep pain for the family, but knowing she helped others brought them comfort during a difficult time.

He explained that the family never doubted the decision because Manisha had always cared about helping people. Doctors were allowed to begin the organ procurement process immediately after her death because the family believed it matched her wishes.
