Damien Lim and his friend Luthfiyah Khan, both undergraduate students, have recently launched a new initiative, “Save-a-Pal,” aimed at providing critical support to Palestinians through the respected NGO, Doctors Without Borders (MSF). MSF is known for delivering emergency humanitarian aid in crisis areas, including Palestine. The initiative kicked off on June 10, 2024.
The Concept of Save-a-Pal
“Save-a-Pal” encourages participants to engage in physical activities such as running, swimming, cycling, walking, or hiking.
The mileage tracked through these activities on the Strava app (Group: Save-a-Pal) translates directly into funds contributed to MSF by the organizers, Damien Lim and Luthfiyah. This initiative not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also supports a crucial humanitarian cause.
Rapid Growth and the Need for Support
The response to Save-a-Pal has been overwhelming. The organizers initially aimed to engage 20-30 participants. However, within just one week, they saw their group expand to more than 100 participants.
This rapid growth underscores the initiative’s potential but also highlights the challenge of sustaining it solely through the organizers’ funds.
Call for Collaboration and Assistance
Recognizing the need for sustainable support, Damien Lim and Luthfiyah are seeking assistance to reach out to potential organizations for support, ensuring the sustainability and further expansion of Save-a-Pal. Collaboration with supportive platforms and organizations could provide the necessary resources to keep this initiative thriving.
How to Get Involved
Participants interested in joining the initiative can do so by creating a Strava account and joining the Save-a-Pal group through this link: Strava Save-a-Pal
For more information, visit Damien Lim’s Instagram account for relevant posts and highlights. Questions can also be sent via private message to Damien (@macadamez) or Luthfiyah (@luthfiyahb.khan). Additionally, there are also Frequently-Asked-Questions (FAQ) that may answer further questions regarding the purpose of this launch.
Moving Forward
Save-a-Pal has recently taken a significant step forward by establishing its presence on social media and creating a dedicated communication channel. Damien and Luthfiyah have created an Instagram page for Save-a-Pal (@save_a_pal) and an email address (saveapal.1006@gmail.com). These platforms will enable them to engage more effectively with participants and supporters.
Their first week of contributions has already been completed, marking a promising start to the initiative.
Damien and Luthfiyah remain committed to making a lasting impact and are hopeful that with external support, they can continue to promote a healthy lifestyle among participants while significantly contributing to a noble cause.
Open Donations
To keep Save-a-Pal running strong, Damien and Luthfiyah have opened up donations to the public. Over the past two weeks, they’ve received generous contributions totaling $1051 from 13 kind-hearted individuals. The outpouring of support has truly touched them, and they are deeply grateful for the trust their community has shown.
If you’d like to support this cause, you can:
- Donate PayNow or PayLah! to +65 91504628 (Damien).
- Just include “Save_a_pal_(your name)” in the comments or message section to ensure your contribution is properly credited.
- For those overseas or anyone with additional questions, feel free to reach out to them via Instagram. Due to current arrangements, they kindly ask that you refrain from donating to Luthfiyah’s account for the time being.
Your contributions are crucial in sustaining Save-a-Pal, helping it continue its mission to support Palestine through MSF. Damien and Luthfiyah are immensely grateful for your generosity and trust.
