Zhang Ziyu made a powerful start to her international career as she debuted for the China women’s national basketball team.

At just 18 years old, she has already entered the record books as the tallest player in women’s basketball history, standing at 7 feet 5 inches.
First International Stage Performance
Her first matches were with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this was a significant milestone both to the player and the team. The young center soon demonstrated in the games her strength and skill and made her impression at the first steps.
Zhang also scored 34 points and achieved 14 rebounds in a total of just 27 minutes of playing time. She performed well as China won the matches on two occasions. She was tall and had good distance, which was an added advantage in the area of the basket, and no one could stop her.
Good Court Speech
Zhang demonstrated good balance and control in the games despite her height. She was active in attack and defense and moved well across the court. Her scoring and defense of the basket were the factors that contributed to the success of China.

She had teammates who were close to her and created scoring opportunities. Her close-range shots provided many of her points where she used her height to go over defenders. Her rebounds also helped the team maintain control of the game.
Rising Star for China
Zhang’s debut performance has placed her among the most promising young players in the sport. Her early success suggests that she could become an important part of China’s basketball future.

The matches also showed how the team is building around new talent. With Zhang’s presence, China adds both height and strength to its lineup. She will have an increased role in the team as she gains more experience. It is the first step towards the international level of Zhang Ziyu, who is set to play more matches in the months to come.
