Colourful displays fill Yogyakarta skies
Colourful kites filled the skies above Yogyakarta as Indonesia hosted the 2026 Jogja International Kite Festival on Saturday, drawing participants from 17 countries.

Footage shows a striking collection of intricately designed kites soaring over Parangkusumo Beach. Giant 3D creations include a horse-drawn carriage, a smiling pink cat and an astronaut.
Growing international participation
“The number of participating countries has increased this year, which definitely adds to the excitement and grandeur of this 2026 International Kite Festival,” the festival coordinator said.

Held on July 11 and 12, the festival features traditional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional kites, alongside giant dragon trains, under the theme ‘Kite for Peace, Friendship & Unity’.
Festival boosts tourism and culture

The annual festival is part of Yogyakarta’s 2026 tourism calendar, showcasing local culture and drawing visitors from across Indonesia and overseas.
