Kilauea Lava Eruption
Kilauea volcano in Hawaii produced another dramatic episode of lava fountaining, sending molten rock hundreds of metres into the air before the eruption subsided later on Wednesday.

Footage shows red-hot lava erupting from Kilauea in a towering fountain as molten rock cascades down the crater, while glowing volcanic plumes billow overhead.
Massive Lava Fountains
The latest eruptive episode at Halema’uma’u crater generated lava fountains reaching about 290 metres before ending after just over eight hours.

The eruption remained confined to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Volcano Alert Lowered
The US Geological Survey briefly raised Kilauea’s volcano alert level and aviation colour code as the eruption intensified before lowering both after volcanic activity eased.
Authorities also warned that volcanic ash and other lightweight volcanic material could be carried downwind from the crater.
