A woman was recently caught attempting a fraud scheme at a night market in Sungai Petani, Kedah. One of the vendors noticed the scam and caught her red-handed before she could escape. A TikTok video uploaded by @/aryssaaddena, one of the vendors, shows the woman in a red hoodie, identified as @/mielatsiong on TikTok, being confronted and making the correct payments to the vendors.
In her video, captions revealed that the customer made an RM0.01 transaction and edited the receipt to make it appear as if she had paid full payment. The vendor instinctively checked the receipt, caught the scammer, and informed other vendors. This caused a scene, prompting the woman to pay the correct amount and apologize quickly.
Warns other vendors to be careful and double-check payment receipts
As an awareness, the video captioned, “Vendors, be careful, make sure to check the receipts. Luckily, I decided to check, and they were caught before they could scam two more watch shops because I managed to confront them.”
Claims it was her first attempt
The woman admitted to the scam and revealed it was part of a tactic used by a specific group. She clarified that this was her first time attempting the scam, wanting to see if it would work. “I just wanted to try. I have never done this before. I just wanted to try because a friend of mine said this will work.”
“Everybody makes mistakes, don’t just listen to one side of the story”
Not long after, a TikTok video by the perpetrator, @/mielatsiong was uploaded clarifying that she has since apologized, returned all items, and paid for things that she owed.
“I admitted I was wrong and that very night I asked the owner of the video to delete the video, but she still posted it.” She recounted the night of the incident.
“I understand that you want to raise awareness on this matter but why did you not blur out my face? Even cutting out the part where I have paid and returned all items.” She further expressed her frustrations. As of the time of writing, both her video and the viral video posted by @/aryssaaddena have now been deleted.
