Supporters Celebrate Vijay’s Oath-Taking Ceremony
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party leader Joseph Vijay sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during the oath-taking ceremony in Chennai on Sunday.
Footage shows supporters of superstar-turned-politician cheering as Vijay arrived at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Joined on stage by the Indian opposition leader and Indian National Congress (INC) chief Rahul Gandhi, Vijay took a selfie with crowds in the background.

Vijay took the oath on the Indian Constitution, pledging to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation, work in accordance with the law without fear or favour, and reject hatred.
Vijay Promises New Era of Governance
“I would like to express my gratitude at this time to the people of Tamil Nadu, to all the people, for creating such a moment. Come, let’s all come together to deliver fresh governance, a new governance,” Vijay said. “This is a new beginning. A new era of real, secular, social justice starts now.”

Since India’s independence, Tamil Nadu has been governed by two major Dravidian parties, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). In 2024, TVK was launched under Vijay’s leadership, positioning itself as a people-first alternative to the state’s traditional political forces.
TVK Forms Government With Coalition Support
In last month’s Tamil Nadu state elections, TVK won 108 out of 234 seats, while former Chief Minister Muthuvel Stalin’s DMK secured 59 seats. With the majority mark at 118, TVK garnered support from 13 MLAs across five parties, INC, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Communist Party of India (CPI), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).

With the backing of 121 MLAs, TVK successfully formed the government.
