The streets of Myanmar were recently filled with water, music, and large crowds as people celebrated the annual Thingyan festival. Among the many participants, one Chinese tourist stood out for carrying a large metal water tank on his back during the celebrations.

Photos and short videos were taken of the strange moment. The man was observed making preparations for the event in a building and then went outside to join the water activities.
A strange festival organization
The tourist, rather than carrying a small water gun as most people do, carried a large, silver tank. His tank was attached on his back with heavy straps, like a heavy backpack. A long orange hose was connected to the tank, leading to a spray nozzle in his hand.

The gear resembled more of a cleaning device than a festival. This notwithstanding, the man seemed to be willing to participate in the water celebrations in another manner. Individuals around him paused to observe him getting ready to go out by adjusting the tank.
Preparing for the Water Festival
The tourist wore simple clothes: a sleeveless shirt and shorts. This enabled him to move with ease as he was carrying the heavy load. The tank appeared to be big enough to carry a considerable amount of water, and this meant that he could stay longer in the celebration without a refill.

Others were observed preparing around him with small buckets, bowls, and plastic water guns. These are the common tools used during the festival. The man’s setup, however, was much larger than usual.
A Different Way to Join
During this festival, people splash water on each other as part of the tradition. It is a way to mark the new year and take part in community activities. In the streets, there are usually crowds of people who are celebrating the event.
This tradition was not left out by the Chinese tourist who did it in his own way. With a huge tank, he was able to spray water all over when walking around the streets. The scene showed how visitors can take part in local events in their own way while still following the main activities of the celebration.
