Restaurant Attack Captured on CCTV

Dinner at a neighborhood Mookata spot in Phitsanulok turned into a nightmare on Saturday night. It was August 1, 2026. 43-year-old Poramet Phim-up was sitting at a table in the Hua Ro sub-district, having a quiet meal with his wife and their seven-year-old daughter. Out of nowhere, a black-and-red Honda Wave pulled up outside the entrance. The rider didn’t say a word. Dressed in plain clothes with a backpack slung over his shoulder, 61-year-old retired police lieutenant Sinchai Butchan stepped off the bike, pulled a handgun, and started firing right into the dining area.

Seeing the barrel pointed his way, Poramet made a split-second call. He bolted toward the back kitchen to draw the shooter away from his wife and young daughter. But the gunman didn’t stop at the doorway. He barged inside, chasing Poramet through the dining space and squeezing off more rounds before running back to his bike and speeding away into the night.

Victim Rushed to ICU

The scene was pure chaos. By the time local police arrived, they counted roughly eight spent shell casings scattered across the pavement outside, along with another three or four left behind inside the building. Poramet was in rough shape, hit three times in the torso. One bullet went straight through his side and damaged his lung, leaving him bleeding heavily on the floor.

Paramedics stabilized him at the scene before rushing him to Bangkok Hospital Phitsanulok, where doctors moved him straight into the intensive care unit for emergency surgery. Miraculously, his wife and daughter weren’t hit. They had scrambled under nearby tables for cover while bullets were flying, though both were left completely traumatized after watching the whole thing happen right before their eyes.

Former Advice Sparks Resentment

What makes the attack stranger is that the two men weren’t strangers at all. For years, Poramet actually looked up to the former officer as a trusted father figure. Things only soured a month earlier, back in July 2026, when Sinchai got into serious legal trouble for firing a gun inside a local police station.

Poramet initially stepped in to help bail the older man out. But as the case dragged on, Poramet gave him some tough love: he told the retired lieutenant to turn himself in and face the legal consequences properly. Sinchai didn’t take it well. He took the advice as a betrayal, let a bitter grudge build up, and eventually went hunting for Poramet at the restaurant.

Five-Hour Standoff Ends Peacefully

Sinchai went on the run for a week, triggering a widespread police search across Phitsanulok province. On August 8, 2026, tactical units finally tracked him down to his home in the Aranyik sub-district. Knowing the ex-cop was armed and dangerous, over fifty tactical officers encircled the property and called for his surrender.

What followed was a tense, five-hour standoff. Negotiators tried talking him down over loudspeakers, but the old officer refused to budge. The breakthrough only happened when police brought Sinchai’s daughter to the scene. Hearing her emotional pleas over a bullhorn, he finally gave up, walking out unarmed with his hands in the air. Officers recovered the handgun inside, and Sinchai is now in custody facing formal charges of attempted murder and illegal firearm possession.
