From 19–21 November 2024, Singapore will host Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden for a landmark State Visit. This historic event is the first of its kind between Sweden and Singapore and comes at the invitation of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Ambassador Anders Sjöberg remarked that this visit is “a historic milestone.” He added,
“It provides an important opportunity to further enhance business and research cooperation and to develop security policy dialogue. It underscores the excellent relations between our two countries and will strengthen our ties, focusing on trade, innovation, investment, and the green transition.”
Their Majesties will lead an official delegation including Swedish Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Infrastructure and Housing, and State Secretaries for Trade and Health. The delegation also features leaders from over 50 Swedish companies, government organizations, and universities.
The programme will include discussions on innovation, sustainability, and green initiatives, with opportunities to expand collaborations in trade, academia, and security policy.
A Unique Taxi Tribute to Mark the Visit
In a creative gesture to commemorate the visit, the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore has partnered with creative agency Forsman & Bodenfors and ComfortDelGro taxis to organize a symbolic tribute.
A fleet of taxis, painted in Singapore’s iconic blue and yellow hues (which also reflect Sweden’s national colors), will form a synchronized display of the Swedish flag.
This creative tribute will be featured in a short film on the Embassy’s Instagram page.
Joakim Ladeborn, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden, said, “This uniquely Singapore welcome will create a charming moment to announce the arrival of Their Majesties.”
Swedish brands with strong local presence, including H&M, SAAB, ABB, and Atlas Copco, are also participating by displaying their logos on the taxi convoy.
