Like a gripping scene from a mystery thriller, the disappearance of Maryam Raza, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) senior cabin crew member, has left everyone in bewilderment. Maryam, who has served with the national carrier for 15 years, embarked on her routine assignment where she had been assigned to the Islamabad-Toronto route aboard PK-782. Upon safely arriving in Toronto, her expected return to duty on PK-784, bound for Karachi took an unexpected turn when she disappeared without a trace.
This marks the third time a crew member has disappeared
This incident, while alarming, is not an isolated case. Just two months earlier, a PIA crew member, Faiza Mukhtar, encountered a similar fate in Canada. Moreover, an unsettling pattern has emerged since 2019 wherein PIA crew members disappeared after reaching foreign destinations raising questions and speculation about the underlying circumstances behind these disappearances. This raised questions about whether it was a mere coincidence or a deliberate disappearance.

However, when PIA suggested the lenient asylum policies of the Canadian government as a plausible explanation, experts proposed a different narrative. According to them, crew members are fleeing due to their low salaries and the airline’s uncertain future.
PIA Partners with Canadian Authorities
In a determined move, PIA has collaborated with Canadian authorities to address this concerning pattern by implementing stringent measures such as confiscating cabin crews’ passports upon their arrival in Canada. Immediate action is required to prevent additional incidents and ensure the well-being of cabin crew members.
