A Malaysian doctor working in Australia has been charged with 33 child sex-related offenses involving at least nine alleged victims, according to Australian authorities. Police have broadened their investigation and discovered more allegations against the medical practitioner since the case was brought to light.
Investigation Expands
The first arrest was made on 29 May 2026 on Dr. Saw Chia Liang, a consultant developmental paediatrician from Perth, Western Australia, who was 41 years old. At the time of his arrest, he faced two charges, including possession of child exploitation material.

However, investigators later widened their inquiries and laid dozens of additional charges. Authorities now allege that the offenses involved at least nine victims and took place over several years.
Court documents presented during recent proceedings revealed that a hidden camera allegedly installed in an examination room in Perth captured some of the suspected offending. Prosecutors also claim that at least one of the alleged victims was a patient under Dr. Saw’s care.
Serious Allegations Filed
According to prosecutors, Dr. Saw has been charged with producing and recording child exploitation material and sexually penetrating a child aged between 13 and 16 years old. He also faces an allegation of attempting to procure a child for sexual activity.

Authorities allege that some of the incidents occurred inside hospital rooms where he worked. The alleged offenses are said to have taken place between November 2022 and May 2026.
Dr. Saw practiced as a consultant developmental paediatrician in several Perth suburbs, including West Leederville, Wembley, Nedlands, and Midland. He also served as a clinical lecturer at Curtin University and worked at several St. John of God hospitals.
Court Appearance
Following the new charges, Australian health authorities suspended Dr. Saw’s medical registration. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency imposed the suspension while legal proceedings continue.

Dr. Saw recently appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court. The court ordered that he remain in custody at Hakea Prison as the case moves forward.
His lawyer is expected to submit a bail application later this month. Dr. Saw is scheduled to return to the Perth Magistrates Court on 30 June 2026, when the case will be mentioned again as investigations continue.
