Singapore Red Cross Aids Nepal Flood Response
The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has pledged S$50,000 in humanitarian aid to support emergency response efforts following severe flash floods in Nepal.
A severe flash flood occurred near the Nepal-China border, with more than 160 people reportedly killed and nearly 1,500 people missing across Nepal and Tibet.
The funding will support the immediate response efforts of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as humanitarian partners working on the ground.
People in Singapore are also being encouraged to donate to support communities affected by the disaster.
Aid to Support Search and Rescue
Donations to the appeal will go towards humanitarian assistance, including search and rescue operations, emergency medical care, and rapid assessments of humanitarian needs.
The Singapore Red Cross said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains ready to deploy a team to support its partners on the ground.
In a statement, Benjamin William, Secretary-General and CEO of the Singapore Red Cross, expressed condolences to those who had lost loved ones and highlighted the impact on affected communities.
“We extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, and our thoughts are with communities affected by the disaster,” he said.
He added that the situation continues to develop, with more than 1,000 people missing, thousands of families affected and livelihoods severely disrupted.
Infrastructure Damaged As Flooding Continues
Critical infrastructure has been severely damaged, making it difficult to reach communities that remain affected by the floods.
There are also warnings of further flooding, while the full extent of the damage continues to emerge.
“The Singapore Red Cross is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to deploy a team to support our partners on the ground,” William said.
“We call upon the people of Singapore to stand in solidarity with the affected communities during these difficult times,” he added.
The Singapore Red Cross is calling on members of the public to make donations to support the humanitarian response during this period of need.
Direct donations to the fundraising appeal are eligible for a 100% tax deduction under the Overseas Humanitarian Assistance Tax Deduction Scheme (OHAS). Donations will be automatically included in donors’ tax assessments.
Receipts will only be issued upon request.
The fundraising appeal runs from 28 August to 30 November 2026.
