A football match in Negeri Sembilan turned tragic after a local man collapsed and died while playing as a goalkeeper during a penalty shootout competition. The incident happened at Residensi Prima Bandar Ekar Rantau at around 11.30am on 26 July.
According to Harian Metro, the man suddenly fell on the field while taking part in the competition. Other participants and people at the venue quickly noticed the situation and attempted to help him.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman confirmed that police received a report about the incident involving the goalkeeper. He said there were no signs of foul play during the match.
Victim Was Receiving Heart Treatment
The football competition was organized by Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Rembau Youth branch. The victim’s wife was also at the event at the time and was there to support him during the competition.
Police later sent the man’s body to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (HTJ) for further action. Initial investigations found that the victim had a history of heart disease and had been receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) Serdang.
Authorities said the incident appeared to be related to his existing health condition. Police also reminded the public not to spread unverified information or make guesses about the case, as investigations were ongoing and the family’s privacy should be respected.
Police Continue Investigations Into Incident
Mohd Yatim said police are continuing to gather details about the incident. The authorities have not reported any other injuries or problems involving other participants at the football competition.
The sudden death shocked those who were present at the match, as the man had collapsed while actively taking part in the game. The event highlights the potential to develop and worsen medical emergencies in a short time even during physical activity, especially for people with pre-existing health conditions.
The victim’s identity was not disclosed in the police statement. Further updates will depend on the findings from the hospital and ongoing police investigations.
