Singapore Botanic Gardens opened a new 150-metre trail on June 11 for visitors looking to take a break, slow down and experience nature in a more mindful way.

A Different Way to Experience Nature
The Nature Immersion Trail at Saraca Stream is the first trail in Asia to receive certification from the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), a US-based organisation that recognises nature therapy trails worldwide.
Unlike a typical walk through the park, this trail is designed to help visitors notice the small details around them, from forest sounds and natural light to the textures and colours of the landscape.

Throughout the path, signs provide information on the many easy activities to be enjoyed, including listening to the sounds of the forest, noticing details in the plants, and stopping to think and reflect.
Built for Accessibility and Well-being
The trail is part of NParks’ wider work for the health programme that aims to achieve a healthier community through green spaces and therapeutic landscapes.

ANFT evaluated the route according to a variety of criteria such as biodiversity, safety, natural features and the accessibility of the route. The paved pathway is accessible to guests who need to bring a wheelchair.
Nature’s Impact on Mental Health
The new trail comes as Singapore studies how nature affects mental and physical health.
The outcomes of the research can be used to design green areas and can provide people with opportunities to gradually re-energise through their daily interactions with nature.
