A police inspector who was taken to court on charges of attempting to kill a traffic policeman by hitting him with his car has claimed to have lost his memory due to “black magic”. The accused, Muhammad Kamal Raj Shanmugam Abdullah (40), is alleged to have committed the incident on the night of April 10. It is learned that he hit a traffic policeman with a Perodua Axia car.

When he appeared in court, he was visibly agitated and said that he was sick and could not remember anything. The court did not record any statement immediately considering his mental state. At the same time, an order has been issued to check his mental health. The incident has created a lot of discussion in the public mind.
Incident Details
The incident took place in the Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra area. Traffic police constable Roslan Saleh was on duty at the time. Suddenly, the accused drove his car at high speed and hit the policeman.

It was learned that the victim was seriously injured. The incident took place at around 10:47 pm. Eyewitnesses said that the incident was very sudden. Later, the injured policeman was rushed to the hospital.
Statement in Court
When the accused was explained the charges in court, he said that he understood it. However, he immediately said that he was sick and could not remember anything due to the “effect of black magic.” His statement created surprise among those present in the court.

At the same time, he was apparently mentally disturbed. The judge considered his condition seriously. As a result, no confession was taken against him immediately. A new date has been fixed for the next hearing.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered against the accused under Section 307 of the Penal Code. If convicted under this section, the maximum sentence can be 10 years in prison. However, if the victim is seriously injured, the sentence can increase to 20 years.

The prosecution said that this is a serious crime and a government servant has been harmed in it. Therefore, they have presented strong arguments for not granting bail. The court also considered the matter and rejected the bail. As a result, the accused will have to remain in custody.
Mental Health Issue
The lawyer for the accused said that the accused has been suffering from schizophrenia for a long time. Although he had taken treatment earlier, he recently stopped taking the medication. It is known that he did not even go for follow-up treatment. The family also tried to ensure his treatment. However, at one point, he ran away while being taken for treatment. Considering these issues, the court has ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation. For this, he will be sent to a specialized hospital for a month.
