White House Defends Rising Fuel Prices as Strategic Pressure on Iran Policy

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that rising global prices are a necessary short-term consequence of US strategy in the Middle East, as Washington seeks to pressure Iran.

“This is a short-term disruption for the long-term strategic goal of the United States to ensure that the world’s leading state sponsor of terror cannot obtain a nuclear weapon,” Leavitt said.

“That’s a good thing for the American people. That’s a good thing for people all over the world. And as the President and his economic and energy team have repeatedly stated, as soon as the operation and now the negotiations with Iran conclude and the strait is reopened, we do expect gas prices to decrease,” she added.

The comments come as the US implements an economic pressure campaign targeting Iran’s oil exports and financial networks, alongside a maritime blockade affecting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

The measures have contributed to reduced global supply and higher fuel prices, with US officials arguing that the impact is temporary and tied to efforts to secure a longer-term strategic outcome.
