Heartbreaking Journey: Young Mom Bravely Sells Dried Tofu on Streets to Save Son’s Life

On January 15, 2025, a video posted by a self-media blogger showing a 28-year-old mother selling dried tofu and sweet potato skins on the streets of Chongqing with her two children went viral, amassing over 9.7 million likes on social media.

The emotional footage captured her struggle to provide for her children, especially her son, who has a congenital heart condition requiring expensive treatment.

A Heart-Wrenching Story Shared in the Video

In the video, the mother, carrying her daughter on her back and standing next to her son, shared the tragic story behind her difficult situation.

According to the woman, her son’s biological father could not handle the financial and emotional pressures of his son’s illness and tragically took his own life and jumped into a river.

She also revealed that her current husband’s family, who are the biological relatives of her daughter, does not accept her because of her son’s illness.

This led to a forced separation between her and her husband, and she has been raising both children on her own ever since.

As reported by SINA, she explained that she is working tirelessly to support them, often selling goods on the streets to make ends meet and fund her son’s much-needed surgery.

Despite already undergoing two surgeries, her son still requires a third after the Chinese New Year.

In addition, the man mentioned in his video that the woman had worked as a construction worker and tower crane operator when she was younger, which is believed to have helped fund her son’s hospital expenses.

A Viral Video Sparks Public Support

The video quickly captured the attention of millions of viewers, who were moved by her story. As the footage continued to circulate online, many netizens, touched by her determination, sent donations to support her son’s medical expenses.

According to the video, the man, moved by the woman’s plight, paid for his order and donated 50,000 yuan (approx. 9,265.74 SGD), which she initially rejected.

However, after the man encouraged her, she tearfully accepted the donation, expressing her deep gratitude.

In addition to the financial help, the man, who had witnessed the woman struggling in the harsh conditions of selling outdoors, gave her a New Year’s gift—a skincare set designed to combat the effects of sun exposure.

The woman was deeply moved by this gesture and thanked him for the gift.

The Woman’s Response and Ongoing Investigation

While the viral video generated an outpouring of support, the mother later took to social media to ask people to stop sending donations, expressing that she did not want to burden anyone further.

According to 6 Park News, the woman now has nearly 600,000 followers on her social media account, and many netizens continue to express their admiration and support.

Authorities in Chongqing’s Yuzhong District have confirmed they are aware of the situation and are currently investigating.
