Political commentator Megyn Kelly delivered a fiery rant on her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, after pop star Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Kelly’s anger quickly escalated, with her even using the F-word to express her outrage at Swift’s endorsement.
During the episode, Kelly read Swift’s Instagram post, where the singer expressed support for Harris and Walz, praising Walz’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive health. But this didn’t sit well with Kelly, who fired back harshly at Swift, saying, “F*** you, Taylor Swift,” and accusing her of supporting harmful policies.
Kelly Misrepresents Minnesota’s Law
One of Kelly’s major points of contention was Swift’s endorsement of Walz, particularly his stance on LGBTQ+ issues. Kelly falsely claimed that a Minnesota law supported by Walz allowed transgender minors to undergo gender-affirming surgeries without parental consent.
She expressed outrage, accusing Swift of backing what she described as the “chopping off of children’s body parts.”
However, this claim misrepresents the actual law. According to independent.co.uk, the Minnesota law, which Kelly referenced, protects transgender individuals seeking care in the state from out-of-state legal actions. It does not, as Kelly claimed, permit minors to undergo medical procedures without their parents’ involvement.
Swift’s Calm Response vs. Kelly’s Rant
Swift’s endorsement message, posted on Instagram, was calm and focused on the importance of making informed decisions. In the post, Swift explained that she would vote for Harris and Walz because of their dedication to fighting for rights that are important to her, including LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive health.
The singer even humorously signed off her post as “Childless Cat Lady.” Her Instagram caption encouraged her followers to do their own research on the issues and make their own decisions as voters.
While Kelly’s criticism of Walz’s LGBTQ+ stance included false claims about Minnesota’s transgender healthcare law, Swift remained focused on encouraging informed voting.
