In Batu Pahat, a 24-year-old man was arrested by police for allegedly spying on a 28-year-old woman in a restroom near a shopping center on Jalan Flora Utama. This incident occurred on Thursday (June 13), at approximately 12.30 p.m.
Victim’s reaction
Upon discovering the suspect, the victim screamed for help and splashed water at him. Security guards, alerted by her cries, quickly apprehended the suspect, who was hiding in an adjacent restroom.
When questioned by the security guard about his phone, the perpetrator tried to evade accusations by insisting, “I don’t own a phone.” Unmoved by his excuses, the guard threatened force and escorted him to the cubicle where he was suspected of hiding his phone and secretly taking photos of the victim.
Police report and legal proceedings
According to The Star, Superintendent Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, Acting District Police Chief of Batu Pahat, the incident occurred around 12:30 PM. He explained, “The victim noticed the suspect peeping at her through the gap between the stalls.”
Superintendent Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani stated that the suspect had been remanded for four days starting Friday, June 14. The remand is pending further investigation under Section 377D of the Penal Code.
Social Media Reactions
The original video, uploaded by @evelyn_zkal on TikTok on Thursday, gained viral attention by Friday. Since then, her TikTok account has been set to private. The video, however, has been reposted across multiple online platforms, where viewers have shared and commented extensively on the incident.
One user shared his story stating that he once entered a female bathroom by mistake.
“There was this one time at an airport abroad when I really couldn’t hold it in and rushed to the nearest restroom. While I was doing my business, I heard someone banging on the door really hard. I thought to myself, “Hey, can you be patient? If I start cursing in your language, you’ll see.” After I finished, I wanted to check who was being so annoying. Then I realized I had entered the women’s restroom by mistake. I thought, “Oh, that’s why they were banging so hard.” I quickly left, feeling embarrassed. Surprisingly, no one questioned why I was coming out of the women’s restroom. By the way, I was only in Form 2 at the time, so please understand. True story.”
Another raised concern wondering if he was in the female bathroom to install a hidden camera.
One user also questioned, “Are you sure he didn’t just go into the wrong bathroom by mistake? I did that once but quickly realized it because all the stalls were pink. I quickly got out. In my defense, I have diabetes, and holding it in is like trying to stop the Three Gorges Dam water from flowing.”
However, he was refuted by another viewer stating that the victim saw his head under, so he was spying from below to see into the next stall.
One user even brought race to the discussion adding fuel to the fire.
