High-Tech Enforcement Operation
Malaysian immigration authorities have begun using thermal imaging drones during enforcement operations to locate undocumented foreign workers who attempt to evade arrest. The technology was recently deployed in a raid conducted in Taman Emas, Cheras, where officers screened more than a thousand individuals in a large-scale operation.

According to local reports, the drones were able to detect heat signatures from people hiding in difficult-to-reach locations, including rooftops and ceiling spaces. Authorities said the equipment helped officers identify several individuals who had attempted to avoid detection during the raid.
Migrants Found In Hiding
Deputy Director-General of Immigration Datuk Lokman Effendi Ramli said the thermal drones played a key role in uncovering at least 15 foreign nationals hiding on the roofs of shop buildings. The operation took place between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm on January 29.

During that period, immigration officers inspected the area and conducted document checks on workers and residents. The use of advanced surveillance technology allowed enforcement teams to quickly locate individuals who might otherwise have remained hidden.
Hundreds Screened During Raid
Authorities reported that a total of 1,087 people were screened during the operation. Of those, 218 individuals aged between 18 and 53 were detained after allegedly failing to produce valid identification or immigration documents.

Malaysian officials said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to identify and take action against undocumented migrants working or residing in the country without proper authorization.
Myanmar Workers Most Affected
Most of the people caught in this raid were from Myanmar. News of this has spread fast through migrant circles, as everyone is watching how these raids are changing. By using heat-seeking drones, the authorities have made it much harder for people to hide during a bust.
With these gadgets now part of the standard toolkit, those without papers are feeling the pressure, as the days of escaping through a crawl space or roof are likely over. It is a sign of how the government is doubling down on enforcement, and for the migrant community, the risks of staying in the country have just gone up.
