Seventeen areas across six Malaysian states and two federal territories recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings on Wednesday morning, with several locations reporting levels above 100. The latest figures come as haze continues to affect parts of the country, with Sarawak recording the highest reading among the affected areas.

Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed three areas in Sarawak had unhealthy air quality. Sri Aman recorded the highest API reading at 167, followed by the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) at 166 and Samarahan at 162. An API reading between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy.
Selangor Reports Five Unhealthy Areas
Selangor recorded five areas with API readings above 100. Johan Setia and Shah Alam both recorded readings of 158, making them among the areas with the highest pollution levels reported on Wednesday morning. Klang recorded an API reading of 151, while Banting and Petaling Jaya recorded 144 and 123, respectively.
The figures show that unhealthy air quality was not limited to one part of the country. Several areas across different states and federal territories also recorded readings above 100, although the majority of monitored locations remained below the unhealthy category.
Kuala Lumpur and Other Areas Affected
In the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Cheras recorded an API reading of 159, while Batu Muda recorded 152. Negeri Sembilan also reported unhealthy readings, with Nilai at 162 and Seremban at 158.

Five other areas were also listed under the unhealthy category. Putrajaya recorded an API reading of 159, while Tangkak in Johor recorded 153. In Melaka, Bukit Rambai recorded 143, and in Alor Gajah, 128. Taiping in Perak recorded the lowest unhealthy reading among the listed areas at 108.
Most Areas Remain at Moderate Levels
Despite the number of areas recording unhealthy air quality, 49 locations nationwide remained at the moderate level. Two other areas recorded good air quality readings.
No locations recorded very unhealthy or hazardous air quality as of 8am. Under the API system, readings from zero to 50 are considered good, while readings from 51 to 100 indicate moderate air quality. Levels between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy.

Readings between 201 and 300 are considered very unhealthy, while any reading above 300 is categorized as hazardous. The classification provides a way to track changes in air pollution levels across different parts of the country.
Air Quality Data Updated Hourly
API readings are released every hour using information collected from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide. This means the reported levels can change throughout the day as air conditions shift.
According to the most recent data, there are several areas that are in the unhealthy category and many others that are in the moderate category. Currently, Sarawak has the highest recorded reading with an API level of 167, while Sri Aman is now at 167.
As air quality conditions change in various regions, authorities are monitoring them via the national network of monitoring stations.
