A grieving man in Malaysia has appealed for help after he was unable to afford funeral arrangements for his late wife. The case was shared by Malaysian philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, also known as Uncle Kentang, who stepped in to support the family during their time of need.
Sudden Family Tragedy
The incident took place after the man’s 78-year-old wife passed away on 28 May. According to reports shared on Facebook, the elderly husband was left in deep distress as he tried to manage both emotional pain and financial pressure following her death.

The man approached Kuan Chee Heng for urgent assistance. He said that he was unable to pay even for the basic needs of his family and thus could not properly arrange a decent funeral for his wife.
Emotional Appeal
The man, talking about his predicament, voiced his grief and powerlessness. He said that he could not afford any funeral or cremation because of his financial situation. He also spoke about the pain of losing his wife and his regret at being unable to give her a proper farewell.
Due to his financial difficulties, he further requested assistance in scattering his wife’s ashes at sea. His asking was indicative of the hard situation he was in, following the unexpected death of his partner.
Community Support Appeal
Following the case, Kuan Chee Heng appealed to the public for donations. He asked members of the community to help the family raise funds for a coffin and funeral services.

The target amount is RM5,800 (approximately S$1,670). These are the funds that are required to provide the basic facilities of a funeral and to provide the deceased with a proper send-off.
Fundraising Efforts
This has been actively promoted with the encouragement of supporters to contribute to the fundraising effort. The case has raised awareness about issues of living costs in Malaysia, with some families not having enough to cover the cost of funerals.
Now the focus is on meeting the stipulations for the final rites, which must be carried out in a decent manner.
