Several students from higher education institutions in Malaysia are allegedly involved in escort and call girl services that charge up to RM4,000 (SGD1,210) per day. The claims recently attracted public attention after local authorities and several media reports highlighted the growing misuse of online platforms for illegal activities.

The alleged services were believed to be promoted through social media applications and private messaging groups. Investigators said some students were using fake identities and coded advertisements to attract wealthy clients. Authorities are now studying how these networks operate and whether organized groups are involved behind the scenes.
Online Platforms Under Investigation
According to local reports, some students were introduced to the illegal activity through friends or online contacts. Police suspect that some people were offering quick money and lavish living to lure young female immigrants into the industry.
There were a number of adverts for companionship services, which were supposed to be at the luxury hotels and homes in larger cities of Malaysia. Rates allegedly ranged from RM500 (SGD151) to RM4,000 (SGD1,210) depending on the service and location.

Law enforcement officers are also investigating whether foreign agents or local syndicates are helping manage these online operations. Authorities said digital payment systems and encrypted messaging applications have made investigations more difficult.
Financial Pressure Concerns
Higher cost of living and financial difficulties for students could be factors, some experts say. Studying out of the country can be a costly experience for university students, who may have to pay for higher room and board prices, as well as for their travel and food costs.

The officials noted, however, that prostitution and related crimes are still against the law in Malaysia. Police warned that students involved in such activities could face heavy fines and imprisonment.
A spokesperson from a local education group urged students to seek proper financial assistance if they face economic hardship. Several universities also reminded students to stay careful when responding to suspicious online job offers promising easy money.
Authorities Continue Monitoring Activities
Police said monitoring efforts have increased in recent months, especially involving social media accounts linked to escort advertisements. Cybercrime units are now working closely with other agencies to identify individuals connected to the alleged services.
Authorities added that protecting young people from exploitation remains a major concern. Authorities are investigating the case, but they have not confirmed how many students allegedly joined the activities.
