Iran Releases Drone Footage

The Iranian army released footage on Sunday of drone launches it says targeted ‘two US bases’ in Kuwait during ‘the 16th phase of Operation Thunderbolt’ amid the renewed exchange of fire between Tehran and Washington.

The exact date and location of the footage released by the Iranian army could not be independently verified.

Kuwait Faces Drone Attacks

In a statement, the Iranian army said the attacks were carried out “in retaliation for repeated US aggression, the martyrdom of the dear sons of our homeland, and attacks on bridges, infrastructure, and non-military areas” across Iran.

It further claimed that the attacks struck ‘Ali Al-Salem Air Base and Camp Udairi’ in Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti army announced on Saturday that its forces had “intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks inside its airspace,” noting reports of fire and material damage at infrastructure and civilian locations nationwide.

On Sunday morning, the Kuwaiti army said its air defences were again “intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks.”

US Confirms Casualties

The US has not commented on alleged attacks on its bases in Kuwait, although it confirmed that “two US service members in Jordan were killed in action as US Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.”

On Saturday, CENTCOM took to X to announce it had completed another wave of strikes against Iran, for an eighth consecutive night. It announced later a new round of strikes designed to “swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night.”

Tensions Continue Rising

This comes amid a renewed escalation between Iran and the United States, with Tehran retaliating with attacks on US military bases in the region.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Tehran and Washington on June 17 allowing for a ceasefire. A first round of talks took place later in Switzerland to reach a final agreement.

Both sides have since resumed attacks, while trading blame over memorandum violations.
